Chapter 2
Jesus has power

******

6. Jesus is the creator of the whole universe: -

Quran and Bible both say that God is the creator of the universe. No one else could create heaven and earth, as only God is qualified because of His creative power with which He created heaven and earth.

Isaiah 40:28, "Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable."

The Bible also says in Isaiah 48:12-13,

"Listen to Me, O Jacob, And Israel, My called: I am He, I am the First, I am also the Last.

"Indeed My hand has laid the foundation of the earth, And My right hand has stretched out the heavens; When I call to them, They stand up together."

(Isaiah 48:12-13)

"Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it."

(Isaiah 42:5)

All these verses say that God the LORD is the creator of the universe.

And we read in New Testament that Jesus is the creator of heaven and earth. John 1:3-4 says, "All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men."

Further reading tells us that world was established by God’s wisdom and understanding.

Jeremiah 10:12, "He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, And has stretched out the heavens at His discretion."

Jeremiah 51:15, "He has made the earth by His power; He has established the world by His wisdom, And stretched out the heaven by His understanding."

And the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the wisdom of God as we read in 1 Corinthians 1:24, "but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God." We read in Ephesians 3:9-10, "and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ; to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places."

So Jesus is the creator of the universe and this quality makes Him God. Because God alone made the heaven and earth there is no other beside Him who can do this.

7. Lord Himself is God: -

"God is the Lord of the Universe." The Bible says in Deuteronomy 4:35, "To you it was shown, that you might know that the LORD Himself is God; there is none other besides Him."

In the New Testament we read in acts 2:36, "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." Here we can distinguish the difference between God and Lord: God means "Theos" in Greek which means (taken from Greek Lexicon):

  1. a general name of deities or divinities as used by the Greeks

  2. spoken of the only and true God, trinity

    1. of Christ

    2. Holy Spirit

    3. the Father

3. spoken of the only and true God

a. Refers to the things of God
b. his counsels, interests, things due to him

4. Whatever can in any respect be likened unto God, or resemble him in any way

  1. God's representative or viceregent

  1. of magistrates and judges

But Lord means "Kurios" in Greek. The meaning of the latter words is always "authority" with the legislative and executive aspect of it. The authority of God reveals itself in Jesus Christ in many ways.

8.  Yahoshua is the same Yahweh God

Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology says like this:

Yahweh/Yah. yhwh, the tetragrammaton because of its four letters, is, strictly speaking, the only proper name for God. It is also the most frequent name, occurring in the Old Testament 6, 828 times (almost 700 times in the Psalms alone). Yah is a shortened form that appears fifty times in the Old Testament, including forty-three occurrences in the Psalms, often in the admonition "hallelu-jah" (lit. praise Jah). English Bibles represent the name yhwh by the title "Lord" (written in capitals to distinguish it from "lord" [adonai] [y"nod}a]). The Septuagint rendered yhwh as kyrios [kuvrio"] (Lord). The line from yhwh to 'adonai [y"nod}a] to kyrios [kuvrio"] is significant for the Pauline statement: "And every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord" (Php 2:11).

The Deity named Yahweh (Lord) is identical with Elohim [yihl\a] (God). The shema—"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one" (Deut 6:4) underscores that identity, as do expressions like "Yahweh your/our God." Yahweh as God is exclusively God: "This is what the Lord says—Israel's King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God" (Isaiah 44:6).

The name yhwh is prominent in salvation oracles (Zep 3:14-17) and in petitions (Psalm 79:5, 9; 86:1). The salvation dimension of the name recurs in the announcement of the incarnation: the one born is to be called "Jesus" for (as an echo of the name yhwh) "he will save his people from their sins" (Matt 1:21). In the name yhwh God's character as the savior of a people is revealed.

The name Jesus is Greek for the Hebrew Yahoshua, a name meaning Savior; Christ is the Greek word for the Hebrew Messiah, meaning Anointed. Jesus who came to save the world and the quality of Yahweh as Savior makes it clear that Jesus is the same Yahweh God.

9. Jesus is the Savior of the World

From the Bible or the Quran we see that only God can save us from our sins and from hell fire. Bible very precicely says that God is our Savior and that beside Him there is no other Savior.

Isaiah 43:11, "I, even I, am the LORD, "And besides Me there is no savior."

And also the Bible says in IsaIah 45:15, "Truly You are God, who hide Yourself, O God of Israel, the Savior!"

And in New Testament we see that Jesus was born as the Savior of the world. Once I read the statement of a Muslim scholar which is quoted below and it really shocked me:-

One reason we believe Allah is our Savior and not Jesus, is because Jesus throughout the entire New Testament never stated "I am your savior" or "I will save you from Hell". While on the other hand, Allah throughout the Old Testament and the Final Testament (The Holy Quran), stated we will be saved from Hell through the Grace of Allah. In fact, Jesus even denied being our Savior.

But this statement is not at all true. The whole of New Testament and Old Testament is proof of the

redeeming power of Jesus. But contrary to it Allah did not promise eternal life, forgiveness of sins or salvation of his followers as we read in:

Al-Imran (The Family of Imran)

Sura 3:185, "Every soul shall have a taste of death: And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception."

This Suras from Quran very clearly says that every soul shall have a taste of death, that is, hell fire then judgment.. If a person has to pass through hell fire, then how and why is it possible that he/she can come out of hell fire and go to paradise.. no way.. This verse does not say anything about eternal life. This verse very clearly says that every believer in Allah will be tasting death which means that they did not get the life which Jesus promised – that is, eternal life and heaven as we read in John 10:10, "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

According to Quran every soul is going to hell fire till the Day of Judgment which means that they are not reaching heaven. There is no chance to go to heaven once you go to hell fire... But yes, Jesus can save you when you are still in this world as He said in John 3:15-16,

"That whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

(John 3:15-16)

How can a person save himself/herself from hell fire when he/she is already in hell fire? And this verse says that they will be there till the time of Day of Judgment. Do you think a person who is already in hell fire will get a seat in heaven after judgment? Judgment is a day when people get their final sentence or verdict...

Let us see some of the New Testament text in which Jesus was called Savior or He said about Himself as Savior.

Angels proclaimed, "Savior is born"

Angels proclaimed the birth of the Savior as we read in Luke 2:11, "For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

Also we read in Matthew 1:20-21, "But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."

Jesus Himself said – Savior of the world

Jesus Himself said many a times that He came to save the world and He came to save the lost souls of the world. As we read in these verses.

John 12:47, "And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world."

Matthew 18:11 "For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost."

Luke 9:56, "For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them."

And also we read in John 4:42, Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."

All these verses say that Jesus is the Savior of the world and there is no other Savior beside Him. And Jesus proved it on the cruel cross by shedding His precious blood to redeem us from hell fire.

10. Even the wind and the sea obey Him

Jesus showed His authority over wind and storm as He rebuked the storm and there was a great calm as we read in Mark 4:37-41.

And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.

But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?"

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?"

And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!"

(Mark 4:37-41.)

Yes, God has power over everything and Jesus came to this world and demonstrated His mighty power and authority over everything.
