Son of Man

Jesus never called Himself, "Son of God" but His favorite name was, "Son of Man"

The term Son of man is used for Jesus and by Jesus Himself many a times in the Bible and this term describes Jesus as "seed of the woman or a human", carrying the connotation of weakness and mortality.

Daniel saw a vision about Son of man coming in the cloud in Daniel  7:13-14,

"I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him."

"Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed."

(Daniel 7:13-14)

By this term His humanity is indicated and the expression "coming with the clouds of heaven" in Daniel 7:13, His divinity and deity.

The verse Daniel 7:14 says that Messiah would be human but at the same time He would be a divine King to whom belongs all the glory and that His dominion is an everlasting dominion. The term "Son of Man" was used by Christ himself, to show how as a man He lived a perfect and holy life and died on our behalf to rescue us from hell fire. "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." (John 15:13)

Glory Belongs to God

Much like your worship of Jesus in vain, whereas Jesus himself tells you otherwise, read John 17:3, especially the words "THE ONLY TRUE GOD, and Jesus WHOM YOU HAVE SENT", this makes the worship of Jesus a worship of a FALSE god since there is THE ONLY TRUE GOD WHO SENT JESUS.

This argument was put up by a Muslim in a message board and when I studied the 17th chapter of John I found that Jesus Himself made it clear in John 17:5 that He had glory with God from the beginning of the world.

These are the words spoken by Jesus Himself: -

"And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

"I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
"And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

(John 17:3-5)

Does it not clearly say that Jesus was with God before the world was...and that He is the same God? God of Bible has three personalities though He is the same ONE God.

  1. God Himself

  2. His Word(Jesus)

  3. His Spirit(Holy Spirit)

Bible says in Isaiah 42:8, "I am the LORD, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images."

We see from the above verse that all glory belongs to God that He can not give His glory to anybody nor will He share His glory with anyone. But we read in John 17:1, "Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You." We see that Jesus is asking the father to glorify Him.

No one can share the glory of God but Jesus is asking Father to glorify Him. Why? When we read John 17:5 we see that Jesus said further, "And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was."

Jesus made it clear that He was from the beginning and that He was with God and that He had the glory with His Father. We read in John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

It is because Jesus is the same God and that is why He had the glory with the Father. Father, Son and the Holy Spirit are three personalities but the same one God. All glory and honor belongs to One True God, Jesus as we read in John 17:11, "Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are."

God is Our Friend

As Christians you do not respect his holy and complete adjectives and you talk about God as your friend as you had seen Him before as you live with him.

Well, Abraham was called friend of God as we read in James 2:23, "And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God." All the prophets talked to God as their friend. The LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend (Exodus 33:11). I do not think by saying God is our friend, we disrespect God. It is true that He is almighty but He can be our friend.

The Bible says in Proverbs 17:17, "A friend loves at all times…"

Jesus said in John 15:14-15, "You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you."

Also the Bible says in Romans 5:8-11,

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

(Romans 5:8-11)

When we were enemies of God and when we were sinners, Jesus died for our sins. He shed His precious blood on the cruel cross to purchase our pardon. He made a way for our reconciliation with God. The whole Bible says that He is a God who cares for us. Where can we find this much love? Where can we find this much loving and caring God? I do not think whether there is anybody else who can care for us as Jesus does. That’s why Jesus said, "No longer do I call you servants for a servants does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends."

Yes, God wants to be our friend. If you have not yet accepted Him in your life then you are missing the most wonderful friend who is Almighty God Himself.
